Established in 1974, Renfrey is a national code-compliant hire provider of heavy earthmoving equipment and skilled plant operators that specialise in bulk earthworks, load haul, and major civil infrastructure and mining projects.

The company’s modern hire fleet is prepared and maintained to meet the strictest compliance requirements, and comes with plant risk assessments, maintenance records and job safety environmental analyses for the operators as standard.

Supporting the fleet is a staff of dedicated professionals experienced in working on major projects. Renfrey employs its own field service technicians, boiler makers, fitters, apprentices and skilled plant operators.

Case study: Wareena flowlines

In early April, Renfrey Plant Hire Services was contacted by Nacap Australia to provide various plant and skilled operators to assist with the installation of a gas flow line at Wareena, 200 km northeast of the Ballera Gas Centre in the Cooper Basin, Queensland.

The two-month project included the installation of approximately 26.5 km of 152 mm diameter pipe from the Wareena-1 wellhead to the Coonaberry manifold, and the installation of 1.8 km of 152 mm diameter pipe from the Wareena-5 wellhead to tie-in at the Wareena-1 wellhead.

Renfrey’s low loader led a convoy of ten floats from Adelaide to the site. The hire fleet included seven excavators from 20–33 tonnes with a wide range of buckets and hammers, two graders, and a D7 dozer.

A crew of 12 Santos-inducted Renfrey operators were flown from Adelaide to Ballera, then helicoptered to the remote project site to work continuously for 28 days before having seven days off in Adelaide.

An additional crew of Renfrey operators overlapped throughout the work cycles to maximise utilisation of the plant. At the completion of the project the last truck demobilised the final excavator at the same time the last helicopter left the site. Without a single breakdown the project finished on time, under budget and to the client’s satisfaction.
