Held on 4 December 2009 and sponsored by Tenix and Petro Coating Systems, the Melbourne Christmas lunch was attended by approximately 180 Pipeliners– the biggest turnout for Melbourne yet.

Oil Search’s Lara Kayess spoke about the recent Young Pipeliners Forum (YPF) Study Tour provided an opportunity for five young pipeline engineers tour pipe facilities in Europe and attend the 17th Biennial Joint Technical Meeting (JTM) on pipeline research in Milan.

Ms Kayess thanked APIA and other study tour sponsors – the Australian Gas Industry Trust and Orrcon – for the opportunity to attend the JTM as well as visit gas and oil pipeline related facilities in Italy, England, Germany and France, not to mention the opportunity to enjoy the international cuisine!

Sydney Christmas drinks

Industry members gathered at the Arthouse Hotel in Sydney on 9 December 2009 to meet and celebrate the end of the year. The event was sponsored by CNC Project Management and Vulcan Coatings.

As was the case in other cities, a YPF member who received a scholarship to attend the JTM and a subsequent study tour reported back on their experience. In Sydney, it was the turn of Ben Cooper of AJ Lucas who gave a comprehensive report on the trip.

A well attended Christmas function has now paved the way for a second Sydney event in the 2010 APIA Calendar.

An Adelaide first

Adelaide held its first ever Christmas function on 17 December 2009. The event was sponsored by Contract Resources/GE Oil and Gas and WDS Ltd.

The event was well attended, which bodes well for future Christmas events in the state.

WA Chapter Christmas lunch

Enerflex and Rosen sponsored the WA Chapter Christmas lunch, held on 27 November 2009.

Approximately 240 Pipeliners attended the event, enjoying a hearty meal while reminiscing on a very busy year for the Western Australian gas industry.

With 2009 seeing the Gorgon LNG Development reaching a final investment decision, the Devil Creek Development underway, and the completion of a capacity expansion on the Goldfields Gas Pipeline– all of the Western Australian pipeline industry’s Christmases have come at once.
