NSW’s young pipeliners prepare for an action-packed 2011
The Australian Pipeliner — April 2011
The New South Wales YPF Committee has come off an exciting 2010 which saw young pipeliners take part in a number of site visits, including manufacturing plants as part of the Gang at the ’Gong tour, and a visit to the Young Compressor Station. The group also heard from experienced industry professionals such as Jonathon de Vos from UEA, who explained horizontal directional drilling (HDD) techniques, and Chris Harvey, who outlined the need for APIA’s Pipeline Engineering Training Program.
The Committee is now ramping up to a busy 2011, planning even more events, including more technical presentations and site visits.
Technical presentations allow new pipeliners access to some of the industry’s most experienced professionals. As the industry is constantly evolving, keeping up-to-date with technical developments is critical for individuals starting out their careers. These technical presentations are also a great opportunity for members to meet more experienced members of the industry and have a chat in a more informal setting.
YPF is also an excellent way to meet other young members of the industry. In 2011 NSW YPF will be organising informal events where young pipeliners can come together over a few drinks to discuss their experiences in the pipeline industry, meet new people and catch up with old friends.
In 2011 one of the most important events in the national energy and infrastructure calendar, the APIA Convention and Exhibition, is coming to Sydney. So from 22–25 October the NSW YPF will be playing host to YPF members from across Australia and taking part in the Conference program, Exhibition and array of social events.
