In early December, John Nixon flew to Port Campbell, Victoria, to set up the communications on the Casino gas pipeline project for the Mitchell Group. The radio system installed consists of one tower, mobiles, handhelds and a telephone system for the site office. The project is continuing, with good coverage of the whole ROW and surrounding district.

In February, it was off to Western Australia for John and Tim Atkinson, Nixon’s Pipeline Supervisor, flying via Coober Pedy to Kalgoorlie, and then driving 380 km north to the Thunderbox Goldmine where Delco are constructing a gas pipeline. Here they erected a 100 foot radio tower, installed mobiles and delivered handheld radios providing communications for the project.

South Australia was the destination during March, when John flew into Naracoorte for the installation of communications for the SESA Project at Penola for NACAP Australia. One tower, two base stations, an office telephone system, mobiles and handhelds were provided for the project.

Closer to home in Gladstone, Queensland, Nixon Communications has a number of other construction projects currently underway.

The Spring Gully Seam Gas Gathering Project north of Roma, where communications were installed for Delco in early 2004, was extended in early November when Delco started work on the Spring Gully Steel Line to Wallumbilla. This was another standard Nixon turn-key operation, with the provision of three towers to cover the project, TV for the camp, telephone office system, base stations, mobiles and handheld radios.

Also continuing is the Bauhinia Rail Project from Blackwater to Rolleston, where Nixon is providing communications for all companies involved - Abi Group, John Holland, Queensland Rail and other subcontractors.

Finally, since March 2004 the Burnett Dam Alliance has been continuing well for MacMahons, with Nixon providing communications to cover the Dam site, Childers and into Bundaberg.

In the near future, due for installation in April for a May start, are the communications for the Whyalla pipeline in South Australia.

While the 480 km Port Hedland to Telfer Project may now be complete, there are still plenty of smaller projects around the country to keep the Nixon team flying and busily occupied, providing turn key construction communication systems wherever they are required.
