The company is successfully continuing the expansion of its fleet, and was pleased to recently launch its all new International 5600 6x6, a heavy duty AWD truck which adds a new dimension to the company’s hire fleet and will compliment the existing fleet of 8x4 Service Trucks. It offers 27,700 kg GVM, Cummins ISM-320V, Allison HD Automatic, Meritor Front and Rear axles, as well as Hendrickson walking beam rear suspension.

General Manager John Wilton says, “We have not had good experience with other AWD trucks on the market, so we looked offshore and identified the International brand AWD as the most suitable truck for our needs. This is the first one to arrive and is currently going through the ADR approval process, and a second truck is due to ship this month as well.”

Nationwide Hire is excited about the prospects for these trucks, which Mr Wilton describes as “a big, basic all wheel drive workhorse”. They are a bonneted truck, giving far greater accessibility and comfort than a cab-over and have an Allison Automatic as standard. As well as being used as service trucks, the company plans to use them as crane trucks and water trucks, utilising a modular system for quick changeovers.

In addition, Nationwide Hire is planning to bring in the 5600 6x6 as a prime mover – ideal for moving pipe along the right of way.

Another new innovation, the 4x4 10-seater MultiCab has exceeded all expectations, with the unit proving to be extremely popular with pipeline construction and mining industries. “Our Fleet of these is growing astronomically,” Mr Wilton says.
