SXIS is a Melbourne based testing laboratory which carries out mechanical testing, real time imaging, metallurgical failure analysis and non-destructive testing.
The SXIS staff have extensive experience in all areas in which the lab operates, having worked together for over 30 years with a previous company. They also all have a good understanding of customer requirements.
Recently, SXIS gained NATA accreditation to ISO/IEC 170251– 2006 for mechanical testing, metallography and product testing. This assessment covered the quality system, calibration of equipment and competency of performing tests.
This accreditation will enable SXIS to perform independent testing to Australian Standards and issue NATA endorsed test reports.

SXIS has a complete mechanical testing laboratory including a full preparation machine shop for machining of tensile test, impact and macro samples.
The NATA scope of Accreditation for mechanical testing covers: metals and metal products, welds and weld test specimen, lifting gear, tensioning and staying systems, thread fasteners, mechanical tests of assemblies and furniture tests on bunk beds.
It also covers Micro Structural Tests on ferrous material, aluminium and aluminium alloys, copper and copper alloys, and other metals and alloys, as well as coating and corrosion tests of metals.
SXIS mechanical testing staff have a sound understanding of the testing requirements of AS2885. Along with associated standards, welder qualification and procedure test pipes, this is an area in which SXIS has specialised.
Material selection, identification and examination of micro structures are also carried out by the SXIS metallography section, along with complete failure investigation and analysis.
SXIS’s owners and directors Ian Buttler, Greg Hillard and Jeff Tandy have been involved in the testing industry for a number of years and are well recognised in their areas of expertise.
