Pipeline haulage has been a natural progression for the business. Thirty-five years of remote and regional operations has forged NMT into an industry leader with extensive hands -on experience throughout Australia, specialising in remote areas.

The company has been involved in numerous pipeline infrastructure projects throughout Australia. During the last few years alone, they have delivered a total of 7,500 km of pipe from coating plants, wharves and stockpiles to the Right of Way, in some of the most remote areas of the country. They have delivered on time every time to meet stringent pipe laying schedules.

In general, NMT supplies complete transport logistics, hauling over-dimensional loads and co-ordinating vehicle movements with customer consultation. Lifting equipment such as cranes, forklifts excavators and vacuum lifts are used as required. All equipment, drivers and operators supplied are suitably licensed and accredited, and the staff have been employed long-term with the family business.

All the prime movers and service vehicles are equipped with UHF/HF radios, mobile or satellite phones to maintain the controlled sequencing and locations of vehicles.

Pipe is transported either on single extendable trailers or by road train extendable trailers to the pipeline easement or the Right of Way. Under more severe conditions ‘dollies’ are put under the extendable trailers and towed in and out of the right ways using tow tractors. NMT use a vacuum lift as an attachment to excavators to load trailers at the stockpiles and unload and string out the pipe on the right of way.

The company’s procedures and work methods are complemented by its OH&S division who ensure that the operations and transport plans used are followed diligently and comply with company and state regulations. NMT operate under Mass Management, Maintenance Management and Fatigue Management Accreditation and are fully conversant with transport regulations in each state.

NMT’s stockpile management includes the use of scanners and barcode technology to record and dispatch pipe to meet customer requirements.
