Hired by Diversified Construction Corporation, GTI contributed to the project management of the Jackson to Moomba pipeline camp construction including civil, electrical, plumbing, gas fitting works, sewerage treatment and effluent disposal.
GTI also aided with the generator design and load bank requirements for the camp, a major adaption for the harsh arid climates.
GTI Managing Director Geoff Pike spoke to The Australian Pipeliner saying that daytime at the camp site, located half way between Jackson and Moomba, was often 45 degrees Celsius and the generator load difference of the generators between day and night varied by approximately 50 per cent.
Mr Pike said that GTI received the construction contract for the camp on 10 November and was onsite by 20 November, with construction complete by 20 December.

Procuring predicaments overcome
The project posed logistical challenges following flooding through the Cooper flood plains, which increased the usual 1,300-1,400 km procurement route to site to approximately 1,800 km.
Many different bases had to be used to procure materials for the Jackson to Moomba project. Mr Pike said “Approximately 10 different areas from Brisbane to Mildura, were used to secure materials. GTI had to use its networking ability and found many local companies very useful.”
Following the successful and timely contribution to the construction of the Jackson to Moomba camp in challenging conditions, Mr Pike was nominated and successful in the Australian Institute of Management Awards Regional Finals – Queensland. A State final dinner will be held in early November with an overall winner being announced on the night.
