The YPF members departed Brisbane for Chinchilla on Friday 9 September 2011. After a dinner and drinks function at the Chinchilla Bowls Club, the YPFers spent the night at the McConnell Dowell and Consolidated Construction Company Joint Venture (MCJV) Camp, excited for the CSG tour that would begin the next day.

Saturday morning commenced with a safety induction and introduction to the $15 billion Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) Project from MCJV Project Manager Marwan Anas.

Following the presentation, the YPFers made their first tour stop at QGC’s Argyle CSG field. The YPFers witnessed a live demonstration of FastFusion MobileTrac welding of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline, which is an important construction aspect of QGC’s 540 km, 315 mm diameter HDPE gas gathering network.

After this, the YPF group returned to the MCJV camp to receive a guided tour through the double joint welding process, which included vacuum lifting of pipe from the pipe laydown area, bevelling, automatic welding, manual arc welding, inspection and then transportation to the right-of-way (RoW).

The group then travelled to the QCLNG Pipeline RoW, where they viewed pipe stringing and in-the-field cold bends before making the trek back to Brisbane.

The CSG site tour was a great success and was made possible by sponsors QGC, MCJV, Murphy Pipe and Civil, Fyfe and Sargent.
