The digital communication system, known as IDAS (Icom Digital Advanced System), has been created using a jointly developed digital modulation and common air interface protocol.
The technology has surfaced in response to the need for more efficient use of radio spectrum and consists of a complete radio system including handhelds, mobiles and repeaters that operate using an ultra narrowband 6.25 KHz frequency division multiple access (FDMA) modulation scheme.
There are numerous advantages of the IDAS system, including:
- Digitally modulated clear voice;
- Secure communication;
- 4,800 bits per second data transfer; and,
- Compatibility with current analogue FM systems.
The IDAS series is also capable of mixed-mode operation, in which the radio can receive analogue FM and digital signals on a single channel. IDAS allows a scale your system migration to ultra narrowband digital, while still running your existing analogue system.
The IDAS system would be ideal for use in the construction, security and transport industries. Icom aims to help such users to replace existing analogue FM systems and provide them with an investment on which they can rely.
