Many gas and water companies are turning to techniques such as drilling under pressure to install pipe components comprising a variety of different materials. Using the procedure means that contractors can continue installing pipe systems without the need to shut off connections to the existing pipeline and disrupt water or gas supply to customers.

Georg Fischer (GF) Piping Systems provides drilling devices that are compact and lightweight, enabling easy drilling for water and gas distribution lines still operating under pressure.

One such device, the W410 tapping tool, is suitable for making connections to spigot ends in pipes ranging from 63–200 mm in diameter, thanks to its modular system. The tool is also especially useful for pipe systems with diameters greater than 2 inches comprising a variety of pipe materials. The W410 can also make flange-to-flange connections and is available in 50–200 mm diameter sizes.

The company also supplies the ELGEF® Plus Branch Fittings, which are branch saddles that can be mounted on polyethylene pipes, in a range of available drilling sizes from 63–84 mm diameter.
