Mobile services company Globalstar Australia has launched its latest efforts in its quest to deliver cost effective and reliable mobile communications to all Australians with the introduction of its dual mode CDMA and Satellite mobile service. The new CDMA and Satellite service complements Globalstar’s existing dual mode service that works over GSM (Digital) and Satellite and has underpinned Globalstar’s Mobile everywhere™ service up until now.
Mobile everywhere™ is a simple to use mobile service that utilises a fairly standard handheld mobile phone except that it can work on cellular networks and over satellite, providing users with 100 per cent coverage of Australia and up to 200 nautical miles offshore. Utilising just one handset, users will receive one itemised account for both CDMA and Satellite connected calls and have one mobile number which can be conveniently ported from an existing cellular number to the new Globalstar service.
CDMA is often regarded as the mobile network built for rural Australia and provides superior coverage to that offered by the GSM networks. However, operators managing vast networks of national resources in remote parts of Australia have been plagued by the lack of access to communications services and the limitations of cellular phone coverage provided by the mobile phone networks. Even on some of our major highways you can travel 10 km from the town outskirts and the network service ceases. This is where the new Globalstar phone really comes into its own. Whilst other phones simply stop working when cellular coverage is unavailable, the Qualcomm GSP1600 mobile phone simply switches from CDMA to Satellite mode and continues to function.
So now the communication disadvantages of mining remote locations disappear, whether you are surveying, operating or maintaining resources, Globalstar's Mobile everywhere™ service provides more ways to stay in touch.

“Mobile everywhere™ is ideal for remote crews giving them the assurance that they can instantly summons help or medical supplies if the need arises as well as maintain contact with their base or colleagues anywhere in the world ensuring they maximise productivity and efficiency,” said Peter Bolger, Managing Director Globalstar Australia.
With call plans and rates similar to other mobile phone services, Mobile everywhere™ offers very competitive call rates in both satellite and cellular modes and provides enhanced features such as voicemail, call forwarding, and speed dialling.
“Mobile everywhere™ call plans start from as low as $35 per month, including $10 worth of included calls. You can now have access to a mobile phone service right across the country for around the cost of a fixed telephone line. With CDMA call costs from 25 cents per 30 seconds and satellite calls from as low as 43 cents per 30 seconds, free incoming satellite and cellular calls and calls to a Globalstar phone charged to the caller at their standard mobile rate, why suffer limited mobile phone coverage any longer?” added Mr Bolger.
The new phone also comes with a built-in data modem allowing users to access the Internet and office network at data speeds up to 9.6 kbps, or an effective 38.4 kbps when used with the Globalstar compression service, which is provided at no extra cost. And, like most mobile phones, high performance car kits are available together with a range of other accessories.
Before buying a Globalstar mobile phone, you should verify your eligibility for a Satellite Mobile Phone Subsidy. The Subsidy provides up to $1,500 off the combined purchase price of your phone and the first 12 months access fees, and is available to approved applicants who live, work or operate a business in an area not served by the terrestrial GSM or CDMA mobile networks.
