By Ian Spence, YPF QLD Committee member, CNC Project Management The Australian Pipeliner — January 2011
Santos LNG Plant In-Country Manager Steve Schoemaker explained the coal seam gas to LNG process at the latest Queensland Young Pipeliners Forum speaker event, held at the Ship Inn, Brisbane on 29 October 2010.
Mr Shoemaker provided an engaging presentation that gave an overview of the whole coal seam gas (CSG) to LNG process, with particular reference to Santos GLNG Project.
Mr Schoemaker commenced explained the science behind the CSG extraction process, summarising the logistics and preparation involved in selecting a suitable pipeline alignment to get the CSG to the LNG facility. He then peeled back the outer layers of a typical LNG plant and explained in detail how CSG is turned into LNG. Finally, he described the hard work and dedication that is required to run the Ports Authority through an LNG tanker simulator to ensure that the highest safety levels are maintained when commercial LNG tankers start to enter the port of Gladstone in 2014.
The committee would like to thank Mr Schoemaker for making himself available for the evening and Santos for sponsoring the event.
