Fastwave’s Vehicle Speed and Safety Monitoring System (VSSMS) enables real-time GPS location, speed, journey status and other diagnostic information of hundreds of vehicles to be simultaneously monitored from an operations centre.

The system, which includes a distress alarm for the driver, can be customised to monitor and report on specific safety key performance indicators as part of an overall project safety management regime.

The online tracking interface uses Google Earth, MS Virtual Earth and customised client map overlays to display the fleet information.

The VSSMS includes comprehensive geo-fencing and alerting capabilities. The system can simplify journey management procedures by automatically generating notifications when a vehicle arrives or departs from designated locations.

To enhance the safety of vehicle operations, the VSSMS system can continuously monitor the speed of vehicles in relation to designated safe speed limits established for specific roads or tracks. Speed breaches trigger email and SMS alerts, and are automatically logged in a daily report. In addition, alerts can be sent if vehicles enter restricted areas or roads.

The system uses robust and field proven hardware manufactured in Australia by Fastwave. The FasTracker vehicle GPS tracking unit is designed for operation in extreme heat, dust, vibration and humidity, and can be supplied in a portable version, ideal for short-term project visits and hire vehicles.

In 2008, the Fastwave system won the following awards:

* The Australian Pipeline Industry Association Safety Award * The Australian Fleet Managers Association Safety Award * The Chamber of Minerals and Energy Industry Safety Award
