Based in Bradford, Pennsylvania, Dresser Piping Specialties was founded by Solomon Dresser in 1880, and since then the company has supplied the piping industry with high-quality, enduring couplings and repair products.

Dresser has recently developed the Pressure Balanced Repair Sleeve (PBR), targeted to provide long lasting repair solutions for pipeline systems. The PBR is a repair system which puts the section of pipe being repaired under compressive stress, mitigating the risk of a future fatigue failure of the pipeline being repaired. This system involves welding a sleeve over the defect area, using an integral tap tool to hot tap the pipeline being repaired, and balancing the pressure across the defect.

This system will remove any doubt about the long term integrity of the repair, as opposed to other repair methods that are at risk of leaking due to pressure cycling and fatigue. The PBR will effectively repair a pipeline so that it has a fatigue life equivalent to that of new pipe. It can therefore achieve a truly permanent repair which will last for the remaining life of the pipeline.

Another new product Dresser offers is a field weldable split repair sleeve, compliant with API 6H, for repair of high pressure gas and oil transmission pipelines. The Style 97 is a two-piece repair sleeve designed for use on live gas leaks in steel mains and transmission lines. Available in pipe sizes ranging from 3 to 48 inches, the 97 is rated for pipeline pressure up to 1480 PSIG (ANSI 600#).

On sizes 8 inches and above, the Style 97 features both a lifting lug and a hinge to make installation easier. When used as a temporary repair product, the gaskets can be easily replaced when returned to inventory. To make the repair permanent, the sleeve can be welded in place after the leak is sealed.
