A recent visit by The Australian Pipeliner to Australian Portable Camps’ Aldinga Beach headquarters found Frank, Gino and crew busily working on their newest innovation – a self-contained eight man camp unit that can be transported just about anywhere.

The new unit contains sleeping quarters, two separate bathroom facilities, a kitchen/diner, sewage treatment system, potable water storage and silenced generator. All this fits on the back of a semi-trailer, ready to be used and easily transported to where it is needed.

The unit is ideal for use by small teams working in remote locations. Gino describes the unit as being ‘the very best’ for crews involved in fields such as exploration and surveying, pressure testing, or any construction activities.

In Frank’s words, the new designs and developments are “about always getting better, always improving and finding new and better ways of doing things.”

The visit also found Australian Portable Camps’ staff overhauling a camp that had recently returned from Telfer. Gino explained that each camp facility is completely overhauled after coming back from a project to ensure that they are 100 per cent before returning them to the field.

All fittings are completely removed, stripping the units to the shell before putting it all back together again. This not only ensures camp modules are fit for purpose but also allows the APC crew to implement modifications aiming to improve camp standards.

“We are the only ones who do this, who make sure that everything is 100 per cent before we send it back out. No one else can say that,” Frank said.

“Our changes make things better, not only for the workers in the camp but also for the cooks in the kitchen because if the cook is happy, the camp is happy.”
