It would seem everyone has something to say about how training should be managed but rarely does anyone want to take up the challenge and run it as a business. For many companies, the solution to a seamless training process lies in outsourcing to a specialised training organisation.

“Our clients, APA Group and Westnet Energy, decided to outsource their training needs because it made sense to appoint a team who are responsible for all training processes. The service includes tracking and recording to training program development and technical training writing,” says Romea Training Manager Colleen Newman.

Director Leng Saw says that Romea understands the challenges that its clients face and concentrates on the individual needs of each client. “We develop a Training Management Plan (TMP) for each client which complements their Operations/Pipeline Management Plan. The TMP clearly outlines training programs, pathways and schedules as well as reporting and co-ordination processes.”

While getting started is often the hardest thing, Romea makes it easy. One of Romea’s cross-functional training consultants visits each client to discuss their needs.

“When visiting a client we look at what they are currently doing and what they want to achieve. We then implement a strategy to fill the gaps and refine processes. We develop integrated training programs based on the company’s in-house requirements and nationally recognised certificate or qualification. We have found that a tailored training pathway encompassing job ready, on-call, facility, learning and development and mandatory compliance training programs best meets the needs of our clients,” says Mr Saw.

Outsourcing also saves money. Mr Saw says “When we deliver training to a client who has a training management contract in place with us, training is delivered at a daily rate as opposed to a per person rate. Each of our clients is assigned a dedicated training coordinator. Clients don’t pay superannuation or sick leave or overtime or a replacement fee when training staff are on annual leave – you do the sums, the savings are substantial.

“As your company experiences expansion and upgrade projects, the need for training and training material to be written is identified. Romea’s technical writers and project coordinator work closely with clients to develop operational manuals, learning guides and competency assessments. Each learning unit can be developed to be either delivered in a classroom setting or self-paced. This is all part of Romea’s Operations Establishment Package. Our systems and processes are designed to meet your regulatory compliance obligations.”
