The Darwin dinner, sponsored by APA Group and Fyfe Engineering Services, was held at the new Darwin Convention Centre on 6 August. Approximately 60 people attended, and enjoyed a meal under the stars on the deck of the centre.

Department of the Chief Minister Chief Executive Officer Mike Burgess spoke on ‘Pipelines and energy in the Northern Territory’.

Mr Burgess highlighted a number of recent and proposed projects for the Territory. He congratulated APA Group and AJ Lucas’ partnership to recently construct the 280 km Bonaparte Gas Pipeline, which connects the onshore gas plant at Wadeye to the Amadeus Basin to Darwin Pipeline.

Looking to the future, Mr Burgess said that the Ichthys Gas Field Development, involving an 850 km pipeline linking Inpex’s Browse Basin gas fields to Darwin, was a very exciting project and would provide many jobs for the Territory.

Mr Burgess also spoke of potential connections into existing pipeline infrastructure such as to APA Group’s Carpentaria Gas Pipeline at Mt Isa, Queensland, or linking into Cooper Basin assets.

With the Northern Territory Government committed to building on Darwin’s reputation as a regional LNG hub, those in the pipeline industry look forward to attending many more APIA dinners in the Territory.
