High heat generation, flying molten slag, intense light and awkward work positioning are just some of the hazards that confront welders. Correctly designed and manufactured welding clothing protects the welder and reduces the hazards of the job.
Clothing needs to take into consideration body movement, radiated heat, splatter protection, and the flammability of fabric. The surprise is how much can be done using the correct materials and techniques.
The simple glove can be tailored to meet every welding need:
- Protection from heat, flame, molten metal splash, UV, electricity, cuts and punctures.
- Durability with abrasion resistance, tensile strength, tear resistance, heat related dimensional change resistance, reinforced seams and stress points as well as thread strength and flame resistance.
- Comfort fit, sizing, dexterity, fingertip sensitivity, lightweight, sweat vapour transmission and absorption, and climate and oil resistance.
Thumb design is also important, with a straight thumb best for finger tip sensitivity. A wing thumb increases palm durability by reducing seams and keystone thumb provides a comfortable fit.
When leather is tanned it is separated into a grain layer and a flesh layer, commonly called split. The grain layer has a smooth side and a suede side. Both sides of the split are suede.
Weldas® gloves are tailor made for all welding applications and have a choice of lining.
Weldas® leather clothing is designed to allow complete body movement and freedom while maintaining ultimate comfort.
Golden Brown welding clothing is made of heat and abrasion resistant, select split cowhide. All leather seams are double lock stitched with high strength, high heat resistant, five ply, Tex 90 Dupont “Kevlar” thread. All stress points are rivetted or double leather reinforced with all rivets and snaps containing electrical insulation for safety.
The jackets have sport-jacket raglan shoulder construction that enhances freedom of body movement. The roll-up collar stops shooting splatter during out-of-position welding and leather splatter guard at front panel stops shooting spatter from entering chest area. Double leather reinforcement at front snap panel prevents snap pull-out.
Weldas® clothing was the preferred protection requested by welders on the North Queensland Gas Pipeline. ADG Welding Supplies were the suppliers and are able to show the product line to interested parties in the industry.
