In response to community demands for market choice, Australia China Metal Corporation (ACMC) has commenced operations in Australia, offering a choice of ductile iron pipe sizes and joint types never before seen locally.

Ken White, a prominent local engineer and ACMC’s technical advisor, said “The availability of a wider range of joint types and pipes up to DN 3000 in Australia will revolutionise the way we think about pipelines and what we as engineers can accomplish now and in the future.”

ACMC is not only an Australian first but a world first joint venture, involving two Chinese Government-owned corporations, Minmetals and Xinxing, as well as an Australian company, LPD Holdings. The company offers its customers a combination of global intelligence and a wealth of pipeline engineering experience. ACMC’s focus is on delivering fit-for-purpose, strategic, environmental and sustainable water supply solutions to pipeline owners, both government and the private sector, Australia-wide.

An 8 million tonne per year production base guarantees capacity, availability and delivery from ACMC. This is combined with more than 60 years’ experience delivering pipe to 71 countries and regions globally.

ACMC has already successfully pre-qualified as a supplier of water pipes by the Water Pipe Procurement Centre for the Queensland Government and is also a proud member of the Australian Pipeline Industry Association and the Australian Water Association.

A range of pipe lengths, pressure classes, internal and external linings/coatings for varying soil conditions is available, and the robust and adaptable pipes enhance design strength and reduce installation costs, creep and corrosion, but with a greater safety factor and higher impact resistance than other materials. The assembly of ACMC pipelines only requires lifting equipment and simple hand tools, and a wide range of easily assembled joint types is available, reducing construction time and thrust blocks.

ACMC offers pipes and fittings that meet International (ISO) Standards. In many cases, the corporation’s ductile iron pipes exceed the requirements of Australian Standards in terms of allowable operating pressure and corrosion resistance.

In addition, ACMC’s quality control systems have been inspected and approved by Bureau Veritas, KS Certification (Korean Standards Association and Quality Assurance) and Lloyds of London.

With experience in manufacturing, logistics, project management and construction engineering, as well as technical and business relations experience, ACMC shows genuine commitment to businesses and communities to offer pipe supply solutions.

“ACMC is also looking to establish an Australian manufacturing facility. Local production will create employment opportunities, which is an exciting prospect,” said Edward Kwok, Chairman and Managing Director of ACMC.

A site tour of the ACMC plant in Shanghai will take place in late April/early May for key leading industry design engineers from Australia. This will provide an insight for attendees into ACMC, a ‘new Australian player’.
