The theme of the 2005 APIA Annual Convention, being held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 29th October to 1st November, is “Pipelines – Bridging Our Energy Needs”.

This 37th APIA Convention will continue the tradition of bringing together those involved in the pipeline industry, both nationally and internationally, onshore and offshore, and it will highlight and assess the major developments and initiatives in the Australian pipeline industry.

The 2005 Convention will highlight the crucial role of pipelines in helping to meet Australia’s essential energy delivery requirements. In particular, it will examine the role of pipelines as a safe and efficient energy delivery system and the growing role that pipelines have in delivering natural gas – a bridge to a more sustainable long-term energy future.

With the industry about to enter a phase of much-anticipated development, the Convention’s Business Program will commence with an overview and status report on three major Australian pipeline projects.

Other Business Session highlights include:

  • An insight into the new economic regulatory system from both sides of the equation – from the chairman of the Australian Energy Market Commission and one of our major pipeline owners;
  • A look at pipelining in Australia from an engineer’s perspective;
  • Observations from two of our State Regulators;
  • A session discussing how pipelines bridge the energy needs from an international perspective, including reviewing the challenges faced on China’s 4,000 km West to East pipeline and the PNG SE Mananda project; and,
  • A variety of operational and technical papers providing industry representatives with an overview of new technologies.

The 2005 APIA Convention will again feature an ever-expanding and comprehensive Exhibition giving delegates the opportunity to see first hand, and discuss with company representatives, the industry’s latest products and services.
