Andy’s nomination was forwarded by Keith Fitzgerald and seconded by Tony Marletta, both long time members of APIA who have known Andy for many years now.
Andy has played a key role in horizontal directional drilling in Australia and a number of world records have been set for major river crossings and coal bed methane drainage.
Andy joined APIA in 1982 and over the past 22 years he has taken an active role in matters affecting the progress of the group.
It was through Andy’s efforts that the Association grew with increased membership and the resulting income increases vital to the continued existence and growth of the Association.
Andy is a past President of the APIA and remains a member of the Board of Directors.
The Convention also saw Ian Haddow presented with the Association’s 2004 Award for Outstanding Contribution to Australia’s Pipeline Industry.
Ian – who retired in December 2002 as General Manager, Technical for the Australian Pipeline Trust – has made an outstanding and valued contribution to the nation’s pipeline industry in various senior management capacities for nearly 25 years, particularly in the area of pipeline operations.
Since retiring from APT, he has maintained an active industry role as a consultant and APIA’s part-time Technical Manager, as well as being considered a mentor to many people employed within the industry.
Susan Jaques, a professional engineer with Worley, was presented with APIA’s Young Achievement Award for 2004.
Susan arrived in Australia in 1998 after four years of experience as a pipeline engineer with TransCanada Pipelines. She has spent the past six years in Australia developing her expertise and reputation as a pro-active engineer who has excelled in anticipating future problems and solving them in innovative ways before they develop as problems.
Her career in Australia has seen her successfully complete pipeline projects for GHD, Egis Consulting, CMPS & F and, more recently, Worley in Brisbane.
On top of this role, Susan has recently joined the ME38.1 subcommittee and she has presented papers and after-dinner speeches for APIA and the industry.
Ian Black from Oil Search and Kristen Martin from GasNet Australia were also announced as the winners of the Australian Pipeline Industry Association/Australian Gas Industry Trust Study Tour Scholarships.
The study tour - to be held from 5th May 2005 to 2nd June 2005 in the USA and Canada – will see them participate in the joint Pipeline Research Corporation International (PRCI) and the European Pipeline Research Group (EPRG) technical conference and also embark on a comprehensive study tour of pipeline industry related companies in North America.
