NATA active in pipeline NDT audits
NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia) is continuing their active role in auditing laboratories performing non-destructive testing (NDT) during pipeline construction, with a number of high value projects having been subject to an NDT audit by NATA in the past 12 months, including the Bayu-Undan gas pipeline and the North Queensland Gas Pipeline.
Valve Tech opens new workshop
Valve Tech Engineering have been servicing the power, hydro, cogeneration, oil and gas, resource, mining and petrochemical industries for 14 years, providing technical expertise in valve repair and testing, modifications, design and manufacture as well as product selection.
ADG Welding - protecting your staff
What price to do you put on safety and safe work practices? The nature of welding creates situations that demand consideration from employers for welders well-being.

Crack detection in gas pipelines
Hartmut Goedecke, Dipl Ing., Stephan Tappert, Dipl. Ing., Mirko Smuk, Dipl. Ing., Achim Hugger, Dipl. Ing., Josef Franz, Dipl. MIntelligent pigs, which detect geometry defects and metal loss in long distance pipelines have been around for many years. It has also been possible for several years to detect crack-like defects with the ultrasonic method in liquid pipelines. In gas lines, however, the detection of crack-like defects incurs a high additional cost because the ultrasonic method requires a coupling liquid, and ultrasonic pigs can only be run with a liquid batch. A crack detection pig for gas pipelines was therefore urgently required.

Evaluating pipeline coating condition on horizontal directional drills
Brian A MartinHDD are usually installed in areas where pipe is impractical to repair, so they have to comply with the full design life requirements of the pipeline with no repair option. There are a number of circumstances in which pipe in HDD cannot be cathodically protected and can be subject to high rates of corrosion. In spite of this, the acceptance criteria for pipe in HDD is of a lower standard than would be accepted for normal trenched construction. The existing HDD practices and coating evaluation need to be revised.
Keeping your pipeline in safe hands
